Perth Theatre Company comes to Renmark

22nd July 2009
Riverland

Do you remember you first vinyl LP? Do you love rock and roll and remember when comic books, hula hoops and mini skirts were all the rage?

If you do then you’re sure to know Bob and Carol, a baby boomer couple on their search for fulfillment in the hilarious tongue in cheek stage show Baby Boomer Blues.  This play comes to the Chaffey Theatre in Renmark on Monday 10 August 2009 as part of Country Arts SA’s 2009 Performing Arts Season.

Bob and his wife Carol are a couple searching for something more. After an unsuccessful business venture, Bob wants to travel the road to enlightenment to find himself, forcing Carol to be the bread winner.

The role swap shifts the balance in their rocky relationship and Carol insists on an island getaway to keep their marriage from falling apart. It takes a tropical holiday, a typhoon and a cheesy talent quest to push them to their limits to see if it's all worth it.

Perth Theatre Company’s production Baby Boomer Blues was written by the late Alan Becher who co-founded Perth Theatre Company in 1994 and has directed over 40 productions of new Australian plays including 17 world premieres.

Greg McNeill who plays Bob, has a career spanning 20 years both on stage and on screen including roles on Channel 9’s Foreign Exchange and a role as a country cop in the 2003 film A Japanese Story.

Country Arts SA’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ken Lloyd says it’s great to have such a fantastic play part of the Performing Arts Season.

“So far this year our Performing Arts Season has included music, dance and comedy and now an entertaining play about the trials and tribulations of marriage written by such a talented playwright is being added to this year’s line up of entertainment.  What an excellent way to enjoy a great night out at your local theatre.”

“I’m sure there are many people who will be able to relate to Bob and Carol in this hilarious portrayal of married life, a mid life crisis and a comedy about those moments when all you can do is look at the funny side and laugh,” he said.

Lew Owens, Chief Executive of Season 2009 Principal Corporate Partner, ETSA Utilities said, “It’s great to see that our partnership with Country Arts SA continues to bring such a diverse range of performances to theatres across regional South Australia.  This beautifully written play about a couple who I’m sure we have all known at some point in our lives will have audiences entertained and amused all night.”

Baby Boomer Blues will be at the Chaffey Theatre in Renmark on Monday 10 August 2009 at 8pm.  Tickets are Adults $39.50, Friends Club Adult $32.50, Concession $34.50, Friends Club Concession $27.50, Young People (Under 17) $15 and family tickets (2 adults + 2 children) are $94.

To book your tickets, visit the Chaffey Theatre’s Box Office, via Seventeenth Street, Renmark or phone 8586 1800 or visit www.chaffeytheatre.com.au
