The Sum of Us
A work by Playwright David Stevens | Produced by Christine Harris & HIT Productions Directed by Dennis Moore

The road to love isn’t always easy, but when you add in a matchmaking father and his gay son, who both happen to be looking for love at the same time, it makes for award winning theatre. Hit Productions and Country Arts SA present the bittersweet comedy The Sum of Us, touring across the state to the Nautilus Theatre on October 28, the Middleback Theatre on October 31, the Northern Festival Centre on November 1, the Chaffey Theatre on November 5, the Hopgood Theatre on November 9 and the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on November 10.

The Sum of Us invites audiences along for the search for love in inner-city Melbourne. Showcasing John Jarrat (Wolf Creek & McLeod’s Daughters) as widower Harry and Patrick Harvey (best known as Neighbour’s lovable Irishman Connor O’Neil) as his son Jeff, the work brings to the stage some of Australia’s leading film and television talent. Glenn van Oosterom (Rush) and Nell Feeney (Winners and Losers) complete the plays line up.

Playing to sell out crowds across the country on its national tour, The Sum of Us is a humorous but poignant story that illuminates the difficult but necessary road to an accepting and loving connection with others.

Mr. Rob Stobbe, Chief Executive Officer of Country Arts SA’s Season 2011 Principal Partner, ETSA Utilities is looking forward to The Sum of Us tour.

“We are very pleased to round out another fantastic season with Country Arts SA by helping to present The Sum of Us through regional South Australia. Audience members may remember the story from the Hollywood motion picture starring Russell Crowe. It will be a real treat to witness Patrick Harvey bring to life this famous role,” said Mr Stobbe.

Country Arts SA’s Chief Executive Officer Mr. Steve Saffell said touring The Sum of Us in partnership with HIT Productions is a great way to end Country Arts SA’s Season 2011.

“There is no better way to end our Season 2011 program than with a critically acclaimed play, starring some of Australia’s best talent. The Sum of Us is an inspiring story about life, love and a reminder that challenges are best overcome together” said Mr Saffell.

Bookings can be made directly through the Nautilus Theatre on 08 8683 5088, the Middleback Theatre on 08 8644 7300, the Northern Festival Centre on 08 8633 8500, the Chaffey Theatre on08 8586 1800, the Hopgood Theatre on 08 8207 3977 and the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on 08 8723 8741.

“Jarratt is relaxed and entertaining as the big-hearted, lonely Harry and Harvey is warm and
engaging as his son” Kate Herbert - Herald Sun

The Sum of Us gives us a glimpse at both men’s search for companionship. It’s sometimes comic, sometimes tragic but always credible and poignant.
Chris Banes, Same Same

This touring production of David Steven’s Australian classic play starring Patrick Harvey and John Jarrat is an absolute must see.
