Desert To Dunes: 2010 West Coast & Far West Coast Indigenous Art Exhibition
|

Artwork from the Wangka Wilurrara region emphasizes their vast changing land and the combination of its cultures gives it a unique ‘desert/ocean’ flavour. The Desert to Dunes Exhibition contrasts traditional ‘Country’ with the dynamic, evolving contemporary styles particularly evident in the more remote communities.
Different mediums used throughout the exhibition add depth and character and provide a visual enjoyment for each individual. Some mediums include local woods found in the region to produce a range of punu (wooden artefacts) showcasing the traditions and the life in the region. Other artworks have been created by impasto mixtures on canvas adding texture and movement to the artworks and the silk paintings enhancing the delicacy of aboriginal art.
The Desert to Dunes Exhibition is a true testament of the talented emerging and established Aboriginal artists living in the region. This exhibition provides further opportunities for Kuju Aboriginal Arts & Culture Centre, Scotdesco, Yalata and Oak Valley artists a chance to come together and share stories, culture and traditions and to plan for future development, exposure and recognition of Aboriginal Art from the region.
